After years of talking and dreaming about building my own studio, this spring we finally decided to make that dream a reality! After about a month of research, we finally settled on the perfect back yard shed for our new studio space and ordered it at the end of February. We spent the next month prepping our yard for the much anticipated delivery.
First we had to move the chicken coop accross the yard…
Then, after 6 weeks of waiting, our shed was delivered one rainy day in April.
Delivery Day! The kids waisted no time climbing up into the loft!
My dad came down over spring break and we spent a week installing insulation and drywall and extending the back loft from 4 feet to 6.5 feet. I honestly don’t know how we would have done it all without my dads help!
The boys dug a ditch from the house to the studio and we hired an electrician friend to do all the wiring. Then a friend from church came and helped us mud the walls… another “what would we have done without your help?” situation!
By the beginning of June we were finally in the home stretch! We painted and then my mom and dad came back for another week and helped us trim the windows, lay floor, and install that amazing library ladder my dad built!
Starting in September I will be offering art classes as well as private sewing lessons in the new studio! So if you are local and interested in art or sewing classes, contact me for details!
For those who are curious, here are the details…
We ordered the shed from a local dealer. It was made by Old Hickory Buildings and is a 12’x24′ Lofted Playhouse that we customized for our needs. Finished, the interior measures 10′ 5″x19′ 4″. The back loft is 6.5′ deep and can easily sleep 3-4 people.
I LOVE it!!! Congratulations!! Please post all of your class creations…can’t wait to see the magic that comes out of your beautiful space!
Such a cute space and you are going to LOVE I! I found you on Instagram through the hashtag ladiescraftnights. I also host craft night’s and it’s so much fun to get inspiration from other creative folks. I have my own studio where I teach quilting and sewing to adults and children.
