Every Princess Needs a Crown (Tutorial)

These crowns are a great addition to any child’s dress up box and super fun to make! Use this link to download the crown pattern.

Materials:

  • 2 Fat Quarters of Coordinating Fabric
  • Quilt Batting or Felt about 20″ x 6″
  • Ribbon, Rack-Rack, Lace, and or Pom-Poms for Embellishments
  • Buttons or Gems for Crown Jewels
  • Small Hair Elastic
  • Large Button with a Shank on the Back

Cut on fold one crown from each fat quarter and from batting/felt.

Layer outside fabric on batting.

Figure out what ribbons, lace, rick-rack etc you want to use to embellish your crown.

I used my friXion pen and cutting ruler to mark where I wanted my ribbon to be placed, then pinned the ribbon in place.

Sew the ribbon into place with matching thread.

I used buttons for the jewels on this crown but you can also buy Gems that can be sewn on as well.

One you have finished embellishing your crown pin the hair elastic in the middle of one end of the crown and stitch in place.

Place crown pieces together (right sides facing) and sew sides and top together using 1/4″ seam allowance.

Turn right side out, fold in bottom edges 1/4″ and press.  Top stitch the bottom edge to close.

Sew you Large button on the back and use elastic to secure the crown and you are done!
